Doug Kalitta Qualifies Semifinals This Season in Norwalk

Driver Doug Kalitta of the 8,000-horsepower Mac Tools Top Fuel dragster views July 1 final eliminations at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals at Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio a bittersweet event for the olden quarter-mile veteran. Last season’s NHRA championship-points runner-up, Doug reached his first semi-final round of 2007 at the Norwalk race track that is situated just two hours away from his home in Ann Arbor, Mich. But thoughts of his father’s passing away just days before gave burden on the drag racing fan-favorite. Doug Kalitta, Sr. died due to cancer last Tuesday at age of 67.

Doug said that they really wanted to win for his dad. He continued that July 1 was their best day of the season and he really wish his father was there to see it.

Putting on a great show for the packed grandstands full of NHRA fans were Doug and his first-round opponent Larry Dixon. Doug, the No. 14 qualifier,

College Basketball Preview: S Carolina Vs. Kentucky

Lexington, KY – If No. 2 Kentucky was playing for style points, South Carolina already erased the ultimate one last month: a potential zero in the loss column.

While some of the Wildcats (26-1, 11-1 Southeastern Conference) acknowledge they wouldn’t mind exacting a little payback on Devan Downey and Co. in Thursday’s rematch at Rupp Arena, coach John Calipari says it’s too late in the season and his team is too good to be worrying about style points – and certainly revenge.

NCAA Basketball Betting

He wants a top seed in the NCAA tournament but figures if the wins keep coming – even occasionally ugly ones – that will take care of itself.

“If we win it at a halfcourt bank shot, I’ll be happy,” Calipari said Wednesday.

South Carolina (14-12, 5-7), behind Downey’s 30 points, handed Kentucky its only loss last month with a 68-62 upset in Columbia – the Gamecocks’ first win over a team then nationally ranked No.

Ed Bagley’s Top 25 Poll – Week 13 – 6 Upsets Scramble the Rankings

Six AP Top 25 teams can testify how dangerous road games are—all were upset during college football’s 13th week of play, and 2 of the 6 will be facing off in the Atlantic Coast Conference championship game this week. The away losers included Georgia Tech, Clemson, Pittsburgh, Oklahoma State, Mississippi and North Carolina. These events caused changes in my Top 25 Poll. Here is how I see it this week:

1) Alabama (12-0) – Give the Crimson Tide credit. They went 8-0 to win the SEC West Division, and went 12-0 on the season after beating in-state rival Auburn on the road, 26-21. Alabama will now face SEC East Division winner Florida for the SEC title, and a shot at the national championship in a game probably against Texas. The Crimson Tide must now get done what they could not get done last year, beat Florida. Their unbeaten string last year was snapped by Florida, and the Tide never recovered mentally or emotionally, losing to Utah 31-17 in the Sugar

Gators Have Some Things to Cheer About

Highlights of the 2004 SEC Title Game between the #3 Auburn Tigers and #15 Tennessee Vols. Auburn would win 38-28 to capture their first SEC Championship since 1989. AU would go onto beat Va Tech in the Sugar Bowl 16-13 to finish 13-0, and UT would go onto rout Texas A&M 38-7 in the Cotton Bowl to finish 10-3. Note:I’m not a fan of either school.

Gators Have Some Things to Cheer About

It’s no secret that the Florida Gators had a tough end to their basketball season a few weeks ago. OK, so that knocked a little wind out of everybody. But there’s more to Gator life than basketball. Gator basketball will get stronger and more experienced While we wait, there’s great gymnastics, thank goodness!

Let’s take, for example, the gymnastics team. They have been on fire in the SEC tournament and have been wearing down the #1 Georgia Bulldogs. Even though the Gators are #2, they are closing in on the Bulldogs.

The Gators posted the top score of the NCAA tournament today, and even had Bulldogs fans cheering. They advanced to the NCAA Super Six for the 4th time in five years.

Coach Rhonda Faehn is confident in her team. “They are healthier than they have been in the past 6 years while in the tournament,” Faehn has said. Their performance has

Conference Power Rankings

Now that the regular season of college football has concluded, college football fans need some topics to fill the conversational void until the bowl games start. Since all the awards were handed out last week, they have to find another issue. The never-ending debate over conference superiority always generates interest, if not heated discussions.

In an effort to determine the strength of conferences in relation to each other, I have devised a formula to calculate objectively how they rate. I have reviewed the non-conference match-ups of the eleven Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly known as Division 1-A) conferences’ members.

The formula consists of teams contributing points toward their conference’s totals with each win against other teams outside their own conference. Teams receive no credit for defeating members of the Football Championship Subdivision (formerly known as Division 1-AA). However, conferences’ members are penalized for losing to

What Happened To The Emerging Gator Basketball Dynasty?

It seems a lot longer than three years ago that the University of Florida Men’s Basketball team was on top of the College Basketball world with a future brighter than the noon sun in the Sahara.  They had just completed back-to-back National Championship seasons, and were owners of the #1 ranked recruiting class according to Rivals.com.

Head coach Billy Donovan was College Basketball’s hottest commodity – having accepted a lucrative offer to coach in the pros with the Orlando Magic on May 31, 2007, only to retract and “return” to the Gators a few days later.  And just a few weeks later they would see three of their basketball heroes taken within the first 10 picks of the NBA Draft (Al Horford #3 to Atlanta, Corey Brewer #7 to Minnesota and Joakim Noah #9 to Chicago).

Yes, things were indeed good in Gatorland with many predicting the program would supplant Kentucky as the SEC standard, and take its place alongside the

2010 NCAA Football Predictions

With spring practice in the books, it’s time to start making your 2010 college football predictions.  I give mine below with the teams I predict will finish in the Top-10, along with a few teams just outside of it as well as my national champion.  If you want to beat the college football lines this season, then be sure to check out NCAA football picks to guide you to monster profits in 2010.

Top-10 Teams for 2010-11 Season:

1.)  Alabama – I smell a repeat with the pieces Nick Saban has in place.  It took this excellent college football coach only three years to bring a title back to Crimson Tide country, and he is primed to win another this year.  That’s because all of his playmakers are back on offense, from QB Greg McElroy to the RB tandem of Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson, all the way to WR’s Julio Jones and Marquis Maze.  This offense should be even more explosive than it was a year ago.  Only two starters return from the No. 2 defense in

Five Steps to Dressing Your Naked Resume With the Perfect Cover Letter

Did you wear clothes to your last job interview? Silly question, right? As unthinkable as it would be to arrive nude to an interview, you are essentially committing the same faux pas when you send your resume to a potential employer unaccompanied by a well-written cover letter.

Three Indisputable Truths About Cover Letters

Whether we’re talking about a cover letter or your best interview suit, three indisputable truths apply.

First, like a good interview suit, a cover letter is essential. At some point in your life before you embarked on your career, a wise person advised you to purchase a quality business suit. And you did just that. Somewhere in your closet hangs the black, navy blue, or gray suit you’ve reserved for your interviews. No employer needs to tell a rational candidate that professional dress is expected for the interview. Even in creative industries, it is understood that the candidate should

Alabama Crimson Tide – NFL Coaches Popularized by Their Nicknames

Different people have nicknames in sports. These words describe them and their performance in the team. Most of the time, they are blessed with these nicknames by their fellow teammates or by the commentators of the game. Michael Jordan was called the Air Jordan. He acquired this because of his ability to suspend in air when making a shot and his fancy moves when making a shot. George Herman Ruth, Jr. was popularly known as the Babe Ruth because he was considered as the new Babe of Jack (owner of the Baltimore Orioles). However, it is not only players of the sport, who gets a chance to have name attachments. Coaches have nicknames too.

If you ask, who was the bear of football? It is no other than Paul Bryant. He got this nickname because of accepting a challenge to fight with a bear in exchange for a dollar. Despite having this nickname attached to him since he was thirteen years old, this person have coached many teams. However, he was best associated

College Football – in Just Two Years Nick Saban Has the Crimson Tide No. 1 in the Nation

Goodbye Texas. Hello Alabama. It is now the Crimson Tide that have become the No. 1 coveted target in the nation for big-time college football programs in America.

The Texas Longhorns, who were No. 1, took on their 4th top-ranked team in consecutive weeks and came up short on the road Saturday (11-1-08) in Lubbock to No. 6 Texas Tech 39-33 on a scoring play that never should have happened with 1 second left.

In a Texas-style shootout, the Longhorns trailed 19-0 and rallied to take a 33-32 lead on Vondrell McGee’s 4-yard touchdown run with only 1:29 to play. That gave just a little too much time left for the Red Raiders’ Graham Harrell and Michael Crabtree, two gifted athletes on a mission few others would dare to take.

With virtually no time left and 28 yards from pay dirt, Harrell found himself surrounded by nasty Longhorns and out of time with Crabtree in double coverage and no room to even
